From Michael MacRae

The short story only adds to the image. I just want to know more. It seems to be post apocalypse, but it could be something else.

“The days are regimented here and though you should expect him to leave me in the tundra if I were to fall behind, you could say I am well fed and energized, so do not worry. All that he provides in the way of foodstuffs is deer meat. I’ve relied on my rations of tin vegetables and and have taken up the hobby of fishing to satisfy a varied diet.
We hunt most hours of the day, he kills the animals leaving me to fix them to sleds and drag the carcasses, sometimes miles at a time back to the cave where he does not permit me to enter. I’ve been used as little more than a pack mule in these trips but from what I understand he brings me along to observe. It is difficult discerning him as he does not speak, or chooses not to, and he refrains from physical conversation beyond simple gestures when it pleases him. He engages in other activities on a mysterious schedule and he seems to make good use of any time I am away or the rare chance I may be caught sleeping. I’ve stepped outside for only minutes and returned to find a fully skinned and gutted carcass splayed upon the table with its spine removed and ground into sludge. He was sitting in his chair.
He acts like a shadow, constantly moving about the walls rather than cross the floor. If I don’t watch him closely it is easy to lose track of him, even in this confined cabin space. During the nights (if one can call them as such, they are little more than dim evenings here) he sits across from the bed, facing the snuffed out fireplace, barely visible in his dark and oiled wraps. Comfortable sleep has become a luxury, on more than one occasion I have awoke to find he had rotated to face me, his gaunt statuesque form with long fingers clutching the ends of the arm rests. I suppose it goes without saying that he does not make for good company.
I have yet to fully understand what we are doing here, I do hope it is revealed soon. As things are though, I may be here for some time.

Your dream bedroom is just around the corner…. All it takes is a little redecorating and reorganizing to get the beautiful bedroom you’ve always dreamed of.

Source: 10 Little Things You Can Do to Beautify Your Bedroom | Martha Stewart

Martha has the right idea but not the same direction I’m thinking.

The most important thing in your bedroom is the bed itself.

There is nothing sexy about an old mattress or one too cheap for a good sleep. Before you spend money on any bedroom decorating take care of your practical needs. Invest in yourself with a great mattress.

Colours

Now, think about some of your favourite things. What makes you feel luxurious, romantic and sensual? Which colours work for you? It may not be the traditional red. Purple, is a great colour but don’t forget to consider blue, green, yellow and assorted shades of all the rest. The right colours will go a long way and colour is a wonderful way to set the mood and create an atmosphere.

Add the colours you want to your bedroom with all Martha’s ideas: throw rugs, extra pillows, paint your walls or furniture. Be sparing with patterns, think of them as a feature or an accent. However, even solid colours can have a texture or shine for a sexier look. You can find endless great ideas online, try a Pinterest search if you don’t know where to start, for home decorating. Your only real limit is how much you can spend. The more you can do yourself the better, but spend a little when you can’t do it all.

Details

Treat yourself to something extra special when you can. In particular I’m thinking an elegant chandelier. You need light after all. If you get lucky you could find an amazing chandelier and matching lamps for your bedside table, dresser, or desk. Consider a chandelier before other mood lighting. Do those strings of holiday lights or little pot lights really make you feel all that sensual?

Not everyone will be wild on the idea of adding mirrors to their bedroom. But, seeing yourself full length every day isn’t as horrifying as you may imagine. It can build up your confidence because you see yourself as you are rather than as you think you are. It’s also a good way to double check for stray threads, labels, and all the other little things. Plus, a full length mirror can come with a luxurious, decadent frame.

Try browsing flea markets, local artists shops for unique items (not just art for the walls but furniture, flower vases, lamps, etc.). Don’t buy something to make do or fill a space. Clutter is not going to make your bedroom sexier, just messier. Pick furniture and art you really must have! Don’t settle for less. (A great way to keep the clutter down is to move things to other rooms in your home or, give them away as gifts to good homes).

Appeal to more than just the visual senses. Throw rugs should feel good beneath your feet, or your bottom on occasion. Flowers can be nice but they aren’t reliable as scent in the room. Don’t OD on scent – find something pleasant rather than overbearing. Keep a DVD player and DVD’s available. I still like the radio myself.

This means that your bedroom should express YOU and have in and around it furniture, artwork, clothes and items that are deeply personal. An attractive bedroom with all new furniture and no real character is not sexy. Additionally, I’ve always found that women whose bedrooms express their older, mature sides are sexier than younger rooms that look like holdovers from college. Women are sexier than girls, so let go of the Victoria’s Secret PINK decor, or “my bedroom is just my crashpad” and kick it up a notch.

I like the ornate mirror and the way the walls and ceiling are done here. I would love an old fashioned engraved tin ceiling.

A real fireplace would be great but not at all practical for me. Instead I could find something electric which only looks wood burning.

Maybe too much red. But… I really like it!

I like the big mirror on the floor. A casual, simple thing but it gives the setting a little history/ mystery to be not quite perfectly polished.

In these I like the chandeliers and I love the clunky, solid, furniture (the bed and the dresser off to the side). I don’t know about painting the furniture. Covering the wood makes me feel guilty, but I do like the way they look once they are painted.

I’d love to have this faux/ fake fur in my room, on my bed. It looks very lush and touchable.

I also like the rustic, fairytale look. My perfect bedroom would be some combination of lusty red colours, elegant, polished, romantic but looking like something you could walk through and find in the pages of a fairytale. Secret niches, marked by a mysterious past but with a very comfortable bed.

Red Flannel Sheet Set

Some women like shoes, not me. I’ve got two pairs of shoes and a pair of boots. I pretty much wear the same footwear all season long. I don’t love shoes. I do love new sheets, bedding and reading a great book in bed.

Today I found red flannel sheets at The Bay (a Canadian department store). I have another flannel set from The Bay and they are excellent. Not the pilly set which I bought (in a great masculine colour at another store). I bet this red set is just as wonderful, soft and thick. I’m really tempted to pull out my magic credit card, I even have a Bay store card which I haven’t used in awhile.

Would you love to fall asleep and wake up in these sheets?

Then I found pink or green polka dotted sheets in a cotton blend. Great colours. Very Spring! I know Winter is on the way but… how could you wake up feeling blue if you’re surrounded by pink, lime green an polka dots?!

Thomas Muther, Jr. Explores in the Nude

Thomas Muther, Jr. is a frequent poster to the Flickr urban exploration group I moderate. He is pretty much the only nude male posing and – he is setting up the camera, posing and taking the photo on his own. His own model.

As a woman moderating the group I’m glad to see Thomas posting his photos. Without him the group would feel very sexually biased to me. But, I do wonder what other group members think. Likely most of them are male. Most urban explorers are still male and most of the people coming to look at nude people are coming to look at nude females. I’ve never asked him what kind of feedback, if any, he gets.

I could make this story quite lengthy, but to cut to the chase, after hitting me with a volley of questions–during which seven (7!!!!!!) other police cars pulled up–I was informed that a woman out walking her dog had seen me and reported the “incident” to the police. I was then belatedly informed of my rights, handcuffed, and taken to jail for “indecent exposure.” As they were putting the handcuffs on me, I was utterly dumbfounded. The only thing I managed to verbalize was, “why are you putting me in handcuffs?” which seems a reasonable question. Their reply? “Because that’s what we do to people who break the law!” If I’d had my wits about me, I might have rejoindered, “So, you put people in handcuffs who jaywalk?–or go 5 miles over the speed limit?”–but I was completely flummoxed. Thus, I ended up spending the night, and all the next day in jail. I finally managed to contact my sister who wired bail, and I got out late the next evening. With such a horrific charge hanging over my head, I hired an attorney (at $3500), as being a sexual predator registry for the rest of my life didn’t appeal. The charges were dropped after his intervention, so there were no long term consequences, but it was not a fun experience. The ridiculous over zealousness of these police cost me more than just the $3,500, obviously. Being in jail against your will when you’ve done nothing to deserve it really sucks (as opposed to being in jail for civil disobedience–which I’ve done three times . . . an entirely different feeling). Oh well. 🙁 Compared to the injustices committed by various trigger-happy police over the last months, I guess I shouldn’t complain.

Urgh…

Today’s title is a sound, not an actual word.

I am tired and I don’t know why. True I took a book to bed with me last night and read about 150 pages before I finally turned out the light. But, I also slept in. That should equal out, right?

But, I started taking medication for depression and OCD (which is short for obsession, really). I didn’t really think I had any abnormal hang ups until I started looking at the things I do a bit closer. I do have a lot of focus for details, especially once something catches my interest. I do get fussy about the smallest things, having them right. Not that I’m a tidy neat freak. Apparently though, being a neat freak is not actually required. Being a hoarder is the other side of the bucket.

Don’t get pictures of hoarders you see on TV. I’m not that extreme. I keep it to one room, mostly. I don’t bring food around here, other than coffee and the occasional snack which I am careful about. I don’t have mice and the only bugs are those attracted to my hoard of paper, not crumbs of food. So, I’m not a disaster of a hoarder. Just a hoarder light. I did get quite a bit of it cleaned up too but it seems to be creeping back. Anyway, that’s a story for another day.

I think the medicine I’m taking is making me tired. That is one of the side effects but I thought by now (over the first month of taking them) Id’ be past that. The tired comes over me all of a sudden. If you have ever taken an allergy pill (anti-histamine) you will know what that’s like. One minute you are fine the next you can’t possibly seem to keep your eyes open and your body wants to melt down and rest on the floor (or something softer if you can pull yourself together long enough). Maybe not everyone reacts to allergy pills that way. I find even the non-drowsy pills get me.

I’m mostly back to working on my sites again. Still getting sucked into little details rather than starting in on the bigger jobs like all those photographs for the exploration which need to be posted to Flickr (no posts since 2013!) and now my own urban exploration site, Wrecky Rat Bird. I also want to find a simple way to watermark my photos. This gets complicated because I don’t want to watermark my originals, just a web copy. Also, I have a lot of photos on Flickr but my originals from years past are burned on CDs and I’m not sure where they are in the clutter. Another thing, I found one of my saved CD’s but it was broken in half. Discouraging. So I guess that is all part of why I keep putting off the big job of posting my photos. Instead I’m fluffing around with plugins which I could really not bother with compared to the actual photo content which I do need.

There won’t be an image with this post. I’m mostly writing to keep myself awake and it seems to be working. So far. But, I need to get more done than this today. I should have gone out to the grocery store but I put that off for another day. I did the same thing yesterday. Urgh and bleh! There are days like that.
