Red Flannel Sheet Set

Some women like shoes, not me. I’ve got two pairs of shoes and a pair of boots. I pretty much wear the same footwear all season long. I don’t love shoes. I do love new sheets, bedding and reading a great book in bed.

Today I found red flannel sheets at The Bay (a Canadian department store). I have another flannel set from The Bay and they are excellent. Not the pilly set which I bought (in a great masculine colour at another store). I bet this red set is just as wonderful, soft and thick. I’m really tempted to pull out my magic credit card, I even have a Bay store card which I haven’t used in awhile.

Would you love to fall asleep and wake up in these sheets?

Then I found pink or green polka dotted sheets in a cotton blend. Great colours. Very Spring! I know Winter is on the way but… how could you wake up feeling blue if you’re surrounded by pink, lime green an polka dots?!

Happy B-Day Zack

To a Nephew, Born During a Mexican Hurricane

A hurricane welcomed you into this world
Winds have pushed you along from a tow-headed toddler
to 2 diet Cokes and 2 freezies, chips and dip and the newspaper.
A boy who looked for magical creatures with me.
A boy getting tall, stronger and not so much a boy any more.

I remember you. I watch you.
Your life has been a part of my life.
You grow fast, the speed of wind.

So many things I could tell you, talk to you about.
I’ve seen all kinds of storms, rainy days, snowy afternoons
If I could give you all of it, like a book to read, I would
But, life comes in steps and you have to take each one yourself.
Still, you’re never facing the wind alone.

I can block some of the wind while you check your map
Remind you to bring a coat, wear your boots.
Feed you and keep you and watch your hurricane blow.

There are Days When…

Getting back to this personal blog again. Which means I will need to fix it. I have a bunch of broken links from the last time I moved things on my web host. I should also give it a change from the Spring daisy look, considering how much snow there is outside today.

But, today I already have a fairly good work load and don’t feel like doing much other than hiding indoors taking care of myself. I’ve got one of those shingle things again. Making me feel all over yucky and my eye is sore. I really need to get out to deliver paperwork and buy milk at the grocery store. I wish it was a short trip to one spot for both. But no. That would be too nice.

I am trying to think how I can accomplish everything in one place anyway, cheating in a kind of, sort of, way. I could mail the paperwork though it would arrive late. I could skip getting a coffee while I am out (though I have not had a bite of anything all day and I am getting hungry even though I don’t feel like eating). I could just go to the grocery store which is right on the bus route. If I rush the shopping I can meet the bus as it comes back on the next lap of the route and then I don’t need to pay an extra bus fare to get home.

But, it’s cold outside and I’d have to rush into my coat and boots to catch the bus now. Well, really, I have about 15 minutes, give or take due to snow and ice on the roads. So, really I do have enough time to catch the bus. I should stop being such a lemming and get out there and do it. I’m not even standing up yet though.

There are days when having a personal slave sounds like a really good idea.

Friday Fun: Clotheshound Edition

Friday Fun

1. Do you have to dress for work? If so, what is your “uniform”?
2. How would you describe your style when dressing for yourself, rather than work?
3. I have noticed that there seem to be two kinds of dressers in the winter months. Those who love turtlenecks and those that abhor them! Which are you?!
4. It’s lounging time on the couch in the evening. What are you wearing?
5. Describe your favorite “feel good” outfit!

I don’t have to dress for work. I used to wear a Zellers golf shirt, black pants and shoes everyday when I worked at Zellers. I still don’t like wearing black and red together since then. But, I have all the black pants leftover and red is my favourite colour. So some days I do it anyway, out of limited options. I can wear what I like to work these days. Not office work where I have to dress up and buy a new wardrobe each season.

Pretty much the same for work or days off. I wear what I like, comfortable and warm clothes now with it being cold. I bought a new shirt which is a nice shade of purple and very comfortable, made of a towel-like fabric. The only problem is that it got pilled up balls of lint the first time I washed it. So now it is more of an at-home shirt than a going out anywhere shirt. But that is ok. It’s lovely and warm for the evenings at home sitting here on the computer.

I can’t wear things which creep up on my neck. I have asthma and it just makes me feel uncomfortable to have anything too close around my neck.

I don’t usually lounge on the couch. I watch TV in my room while sitting at the computer. I usually change into my nightie and warm housecoat and thick socks so I don’t feel cold. My housecoat is thick fleece with a red and white snowflake pattern. My socks are pink but getting worn out. I need new lounging socks. The nightie right now is deep red, I don’t need to get dressed for work yet so I haven’t, yet.

It’s always something red. If I’m having a yucky day I wear red even though I don’t want to at the time. It perks me up and makes me feel attractive even if I was feeling like an ugly blob when I first walked out the door. Having the right kind of boots helps too. I need to find another pair the old ones are about finished. I’m just not a clothes shopper.

Secret Santa Day

I was away on the day they had set for the exchange and then forgot to bring it in yesterday when I went back to work. So today I have my gift for the Secret Santa exchange sitting out right by my coat and boots. I’m even thinking about spoiling myself and taking a taxi in so I don’t have to carry it in on the bus. It’s not hugely heavy but it’s ackward hauling around more stuff and it’s not exactly light either. Plus I’m just fed up with waiting for the bus.

Tired today too. Couldn’t seem to get to sleep till nearly 7:00 this morning. Then woke up before 11:00. Hope I can do better tonight so I’m not turning into a zombie.

Still no tree up but I am starting to feel that I will, maybe, do it. Maybe. No promises. Doesn’t sound like I’m going anywhere for Christmas and I will be working Boxing Day now. I could put up all the tree stuff on Christmas Day, I will be here. Would be nice to make cookies then too. Just thought of that idea. I’d need to haul flour and such here before the grocery stores are closed up for the holidays.
