Homestyle Pancakes with Fresh Berries – Astro.ca

Homestyle Pancakes with Fresh Berries – Astro.ca .

Astro has a new caramel yogurt. It’s delicious. So far I can only find it at one store here. Went to their site and found this pancake recipe. I haven’t tried adding yogurt to pancakes before. Just butternilk. Sounds like a good idea, though I don’t think I’d use the caramel yogurt for pancakes.

Bacon, Egg and Toast Cups

For Mother’s Day from Martha Stewart – Bacon, Egg and Toast Cups .

Try cooked, crumbled sausage in place of bacon or make a vegetarian version with sauteed spinach. Dress things up with a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.

Ingredients

3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
8 slices white or whole-wheat sandwich bread
6 slices bacon
6 large eggs
Coarse salt and ground pepper
Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Lightly butter 6 standard muffin cups. With a rolling pin, flatten bread slices slightly and, with a 4 1/4-inch cookie cutter, cut into 8 rounds. Cut each round in half, then press 2 halves into each muffin cup, overlapping slightly and making sure bread comes up to edge of cup. Use extra bread to patch any gaps. Brush bread with remaining butter.

In a large skillet, cook bacon over medium, until almost crisp, 4 minutes, flipping once. (It will continue to cook in the oven.) Lay 1 bacon slice in each bread cup and crack an egg over each. Season with salt and pepper. Bake until egg whites are just set, 20 to 25 minutes. Run a small knife around cups to loosen toasts. Serve immediately.

Cook’s Note

Standard muffin pans come in 6- or 12-cup size; if baking 6 items in a 12-cup pan, leave empty space in between. Nonstick pans are nice but not essential. Beware of very thin pans, which often lead to burning. Place pans on a baking sheet to make them easier to get in and out of the oven.

Sunday Breakfast

My nephew Zack is visiting. Terry Lynn made him breakfast this morning while I was still sleeping. One good thing about us having opposite shifts at work. She was able to be here with him when I had to go in. She also left bacon for me. Nothing as nice as the smell of bacon when you wake up on a Sunday morning. It makes you feel you are at home. :)

Make Your Own Comics With Comiqs

Make Your Own Comics With Comiqs

Will look at this one later. Waiting for my sister to bring Zack, any time now. I’m so tired now my head feels funny. Too bad I got up so early but I thought they might come for breakfast. Wouldn’t it be nice to have software for drawing comics? Not sure how it works or exactly what part of the comic making process it does. Even if it was some sort of word processor type thing that would be very interesting.

The Car Thing

Sounds like I will be driving next week or sooner maybe. I will be so glad not to be putting so much of my pay cheque into taxi fares.

I’ve been playing around with Dreamweaver today. I downloaded the new Adobe version, it’s very nice though maybe too many bells and whistles to make it easy to find your way around. I do like it though. I also have an old copy I burned to a disk of a trial for the last Macromedia version. Then the third one is Dreamweaver 4 which I spotted at a GoodWill not so long ago. None of them are just what I would like. I do plan to play around with them more. I have all the guide books that came with Dreamweaver 4 so that might help me find the gadgets available in that software. It doesn’t have much focus on using CSS and that was the important part to me. The Adobe version is nice for CSS templates but to buy it these days is $400, far more than it used to be when it was Macromedia software.

I went out today, took a taxi to and from the grocery store. Went out for a late breakfast, kind of a “Sunday” thing to do before my work week starts again tomorrow.

The workmen were out for the city of Barrie cutting down a tree on the neighbours yard. It must have gotten in the way of the power lines. Sad to see a tree get cut right down to the ground from it’s lofty heights. It is all gone now. Took them most of the day. I wondered if they were going to cut the one on our front lawn too. It’s also getting close to tangling with the power lines.

Just Being Here is the Least I Could Do

Bitterly cold outside today. I am going out to breakfast though. Trying to make myself walk down but when I went out to get the mail (just at the door here) I reversed that decision. It’s frigid! I hope it’s not like this tomorrow when I have to wait for the bus to get to work. Yuck! That would be a day to take a taxi both ways. Better spend the money than lose fingers and toes waiting for that bus.

Anyway, in other news… the BackWash people are banding together in a group, a Google Group. Funny how that used to be newsgroups. Doesn’t have that feel any more. Not much different than any other message board/ email list type of site now. I hope they stick to their plan about keeping all the really old archives though.

BackWash has a new owner and will likely be gone forever soon. I should spend the day copying whatever I don’t already have copied. Won’t have a second chance. But, I wonder about that content. Will it be recycled by the new owner? What will the domain be used for now? It must have enough clout with Google Rank that it was of interest to buy. Will be interesting to see what becomes of the old site. I guess we get to keep our drawings in the end. I’ve got mine.

Time is passing along and soon it will be too late for breakfast and I am hungry. Going to take my book and spend the morning out at least. There is a second hand bookstore, pharmacy and grocery store all in the same strip mall where the little breakfast place is. No McDonalds on this end of town.
