Adventure: Did you go on an adventure in 2013?  What sort?

via Prompt for December 8 | Project Reverb.

The usual old relic exploring adventures. I still haven’t posted all the photos to Flickr, or even uploaded them from the camera.

Eventually they will show up on Flickr: Ontario Rural Ruins, my group for rural explorers in Ontario.

The Wonderful Camera Obscura

The Wonderful Camera Obscura.

The camera obscura – Latin for “dark room” – was a sort of giant camera that Victorians could enjoy along with the other delights of the seaside, for they were usually found on popular beaches or in parks – anywhere that tourists and passers-by could enjoy them.

Briefly, the camera obscura works on the optical principle that when a pinhole of light is admitted to a dark room, the rays of light order themselves into an upside-down image of what is outside. The camera obscuras of the Victoria era were fitted with a lens (to sharpen the image that was created by the thin ray of light) and with a mirror to cast the image onto a horizontal viewing surface.

Won Word Wednesday

driftwood

Won Word Wednesday, the mini meme. What It Is: What happened when I had no camera for Wordless Wednesday. So I had to use words to describe my Wednesday. But only won Word. (That is how my adopted family pronounces ‘one’.)

Another meme that I’m late/ early for. Noticed this one as I wandered along this morning. My coffee water boiled about 15 minutes ago. I have to stop just drifting along this morning and get stuff done. But first…. that coffee. I’ll be back. 🙂

Macro Photo Ladybug

Trying things with the new camera. This was one of my first attempts at using the macro feature. Cropped away quite a bit of the brick steps but it is in good focus. Far better than I could get with the old camera. Still working on the file size issue. Seemed to take over an hour to get my photos from the camera to the computer today.

Before adding this to the blog I ran it through Image Composer and saved it for the web. I think that helps with file size, not sure yet. Did help to make it smaller physically at least.

Yet Another Thought Derailed

If I don’t post now I won’t make the daily quota. I’m working the 3 to midnight shift and going out shopping this morning, after breakfast. I want to buy a new memory card for the new camera. It is not satisified with the old 512 card. No, this mega camera must have at least 2GB. Greedy thing. I’m also going to train my Mother in how to use the old camera. Train is a good word for it. Much like the mighty iron machine, my Mother does not seem to let what I tell her get through. She may have every appearance of listening and I’m sure that the train will arrive on time. But, in the end, the train is a very solid obstacle and it just gets there when it wants to get there. There is no moving a solid iron train once it steps off it’s tracks. But I will do my best. I’m optimistic.

My train of thought keeps getting interrupted by a man with a wicked smile. He’s not here, of course. This is my room. I’m not sharing it. I think I like the idea of the twin beds from the 50’s TV shows. You keep to your side of the room. But, better still, the 1350’s (or whenever) when they had separate rooms. He had the lords room and she had a room which was attached by a bathing/ changing room. If you wanted to see someone naked you went to their room, if invited. I like that idea much better than having to share a bedroom and a bed. It’s cold waking up with no covers. It’s annoying listening to someone else breathe or snore and keep you awake. It’s bothersome to step over his laundry in the morning on your way to the bathroom.

But, I might relent momentarily for a wicked smile on a man’s whiskery face. He was there yesterday. He works days and I’m evenings so I only see him now and then. During our week of training I saw him more often. I miss that wicked smile. It was fun and yet he has a kind of calmness too. Not coming up with just the right word for it. Very attractive to watch him. Nice that I don’t have to do anything else but watch.

I don’t even know if he is my age, could be. I don’t know if he is dating, married or single. I never think to look at his fingers when I could be looking at his face. So he’s just eye candy for me. Something to look forward to at work. Thats kind of enough. This way I don’t have to try to be pleasing or attract him. Though I have been thinking more than usual about what I wear to work each day. Which is ok.

Do you like a man with whiskers, a beard, or do you prefer just the stubble from the night before or do you prefer the clean shaven face? If you were looking up men in a catalogue… which kind would you look at first?

It does seem funny that we don’t have a man catalogue. I know there is PlayGirl but they go too far. Do you really want to see them naked? I don’t. I’d much rather seem them dressed, maybe not all fully dressed but at least one photo in a suit and tie. Another photo in some kind of boxer shorts and a smile. Not those clingy boxers either. I’m only going to laugh if I see that knobby thing pointing at nothing.

I am thinking to do some Christmas shopping today. I’m just going to Zellers. I can use my store credit card there. I have it all paid off and they sent the statement with a note letting me know they raised my limit. Why? I could have used a raised limit when I couldn’t manage to make more than the minimum payment and needed to put groceries on the card. Now I don’t have any problem just paying it off from the online banking once I get home, or a few days later. The raised limit isn’t very useful now. No doubt they just hope I will spend more. Silly store.

Time to get motivated (or at least dressed) for the day. Have a good day where ever you are having a day today.

Stand By Grrl

This morning I woke up early – early for a day I didn’t have to go into work. The plan was to go to the road test and wait on stand by in case someone else missed their appointment and I could step in and get my road test done early. It is scheduled for November 29th. (Those who live in the area should keep that date in mind and stay well back from all road ways).

Anyway, I got up, brushed hair and teeth and all other things brushable. I was ready to go out the door when I realized something was out of place, outside. It had snowed. Not just a light dusting or a little, pretty sprinkle, it was a real heavy snow. Covering the stairs, driveway and the car. I thought a moment about how I should, or could, get them all brushed off. I ended up settling on just brushing off the car.

I hadn’t decided for sure about the road test until I was driving on my way there and had the brakes on the car get stuck. I went through a red light in a school zone with my foot on the brake. So, I thought it would be a good day not to be on stand by for the road test. It was the highway test after all and the highway was looking pretty snowy and slow when I had a look on my way to the shopping mall section of town.

I bought the new digi camera, a Panasonic Lumix. It has 10x optical zoom which was the big thing I was looking for. I’m not sure what the MB level is. I was pretty focused on the zoom thing. It does have other nice features and I am trying them out a bit this afternoon. One pretty big downside if the file size for photos taken with this camera versus my old one which was a 3.1 MB camera. The new photos suck up MB like like a rabid anteater at a picnic. I didn’t expect this. I’m even thinking about keeping the oldie camera so I can take a few photos which will still be ok for using online and in the weblog in particular. I’m sure there is a way to shrink down the file size, I just have to find it.

So, no road test done today but I did get the camera and drive back here all without killing the car. I wasn’t really looking forward to sitting there on stand by all day anyway. Like waiting for someone to pull a switch before the torment begins.

First Snow

Fresh new outlook on the world this morning. The first snow for the new winter. Taken with the new Panasonic Lumix camera. I’ve just figured out one of the big differences between a camera with 3.1 MB and whatever this one has. Hugeness of the file size. I’m going to need a system to scale these down before I use them for blog posts, that’s something I never needed to consider before.
