Today in Soap Opera Land

I’m watching the soap operas today. Some I never got watching before but was too busy with other things to change the channel. Some I watch sporadically. I don’t know which are the popular soaps in the ratings and which get the most viewers.

One of them has actors that have grown old on the soap. Now, it’s great to have them around, still having a storyline. But, it is a bit too geriatric to have them as the major stars still, crowding out the storylines of the younger people. Not that the older generation has no stories. But it is the younger generations who are more active with career, marriage, having children and juggling it all. If not featured, they should be at least balanced out with the older generation.

Another thing, the one that annoyed me, was the young woman with a career and supposedly a brain, could not make dinner. She had a recipe to follow and yet when the guy comes in she is all aflutter with flour in her hair, the dinner mucked up and etc. Now, this is an intelligent woman. Is she pretending to be a ditz? Is she really just this incompetent? Or have the writers gone too far on an old fashioned stereotype? I think it’s the last one. I think the writers need to change their attitude about women. We can be pretty, fashionable and clever too. We can even read and use a recipe to cook dinner or bake a cake.

So that is my take on the soap operas today. Have you watched any lately?

Hermitized!

When you really think about it some of the stuff we cook/ bake is really kind of odd. Who ever got the idea to wrap fruit up in sugar and dough and then bake it for an hour? If you had never eaten a pie, would that sound just great and delicious to you?

We will be doing the Canadian Thanksgiving this coming weekend. The pie baking has begun. From Friday until sometime late on Sunday the house will be full of people. Times like these make me wonder if I was really meant to be a hermit. I know I’m not the social butterfly type. But, I never feel more like disappearing through a crack in the floor than when I am surrounded by family. Mostly they mean well. Mostly they don’t feel any need to censor themselves. Mostly they seem to look at me as if I’m the goodie goodie version of the black sheep of the family.

Anyway, enough about that.

Would you like to be a hermit? I think I would not like the grubby part of it. I’d rather have a shower, a hot one. I’d rather have lovely scented soap and shampoo. But it would be nice to be alone. There is something about being alone that makes me feel myself.

Your One Day of Self Indulgence?

Win some M&M’s from A Quad Mom Named Suz Tell her about your day of indulgence. What would you do if you could do anything and everything in the world, your one day of self indulgence?

This is my day of indulgence:

My day would start with a handsome and charming chauffeur coming to my door very early in the morning. I’d direct him to several places where there are abandoned farmhouses in the area. I’d take all the photos I could, until I was too cold to do any more and the light was fading. In between there would be stops for coffee and a nice lunch somewhere in some little town. I’d have a book to read over lunch, or chat up the chauffeur if he could carry a conversation. At the end of the day, when it was too dark for photos I’d go to the big bookstore for a latte and a book shopping. Then the chauffeur drives me to a nice motel so I can have a hot shower with delicious smelling body soap and shampoo. I spend the night reading snuggled up in bed. The beach is there in the morning, so even though my day is over I can zip out for an early morning of beach combing and sandcastle building before I have to get back to the real world and regular scheduled life.

I would have added more to that if I had thought about it first. Like shopping at the Body Shop for the most luxurious scented shampoo and soap for my shower at the motel. I really like showering at night, when the house is quiet and no one else is awake. It’s so quiet and I feel at peace for at least awhile.

What makes you melt?

I wrote:

My nephew’s real laugh. He’s 13 now, the start of so many changes and so much growing up. Though I haven’t had children of my own he is like my own son. I’ve helped raise him through my sister’s divorce and my own. He is a lovely boy turning into a young man and his laughs don’t come so easily as they did when he was a little boy. They are a treasure now and I melt when I think of all that has been and all that is yet ahead of him. I’m so glad to be someone he counts on and so glad to still be someone who can make him laugh and feel better when things are not always so easy in his life.

Six Random Facts

Six Random Facts About You Meme

If Lucy tagged me on her way to work that would be quite interesting. How do you blog and drive?

1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Write six random things about yourself.
4. Tag six people at the end of your post and link to them.
5. Let each person know they’ve been tagged and leave a comment on their blog.
6. Let the tagger know when your entry is up.

1. I am a secret soap opera watcher. I used to watch Another World, until they took it off the air. Now I have been watching All My Children and One Life to Live cause it had some of the actors from Another World. They aren’t still there now though. :(

2. A really good first date for me would be a guy who brings a potted plant, buys me a latte and then talks about something creative and interesting (not too unusual) which he likes to do as a hobby.

3. I have several lottery tickets which I have not checked yet. Some may already be past the time limit. It just spoils it for me to check them. As long as they are unchecked there is a small potential that I could be a millionaire and never have to worry about money again. But, once I check them they are nothing but compost.

4. I don’t like mushrooms. Even the smell of them cooking is gross to me. The rest of my family loves them, of course.

5. I daydream too much. Probably.

6. I have a missing tooth. Luckily it is towards the back and seldom seen.

Pink Grapefruit Splash

P1020962

This is my favourite shower soap now. It is Pink Grapefruit Splash from Softsoap . It must be in the US but I’m not sure if it will be in the UK and farther. If you see it at the store pop open the top and give it a smell. It is very fresh and pretty. Does not give me a problem with allergies either.

This is not a paid ad. I just love the stuff and I use it every shower. I went to the website to look for a better picture of their graphic with the pink grapfruits but there wasn’t one. Very disappointing. They even offer ecards, but none of them have that same picture. I’d wear that picture as a dress if I was young and skinny. Not so young or skinny I can still use the soap and enjoy the smell every evening.

They Killed Nash!

forbesmarch

I don’t watch the soaps as much as I used to when I had night shifts. But, I still teared up when Nash died and today the sisters, Natalie and Jessica were dealing with the fallout. I didn’t think they would really let Nash die when he fell through the skylight. What a shame. Jessica/ Tess and Nash made a great couple. Lots of fun to watch and I liked that both actors are Canadian. I hope Forbes March gets another science fiction series instead of another soap opera.
