I started the idea of Green Living History as a Blogger blog, long ago. I didn’t start it there. Just wrote a description. I really liked the name so I bought the domain. Now, here the poor thing is, neglected.
Rather than importing the lack of content on Blogger, or keeping the blogger site open for no real reason, I am deleting it there and just adding the single little post back in here.
The Idea Behind Green Living History
Green Living History – An idea to blog about the environment, green living, repurposing, natural religion and history.
Posted 27th April 2012 by Laura Brown
My sister-in-law, Miss Karol, sent me the link to write for SheKnows. I think they are looking for the domestic Goddess, Mother blogger types. But, I sent in a note anyway. I’m working on the ‘what can it hurt’ theory.
This is what I sent (image not included):
Tonight I’m listening to Godzilla roar and knock over most of Tokyo (via Roku) while I change WordPress themes. I’m craving a really good, juicy steak or possibly a rich, gooey chocolate cake. I’m almost 50 (December) and I’m trying to lose weight. It’s not easy. But, divorce wasn’t easy. Not having children when I thought I’d have at least 5 of them at one point, was not easy. Looking forward to menopause is not easy – but sometimes I do look forward to it.
I’d like to write for SheKnows because I like to try new things. Also, I’d like to see more women my age, my weight and spinster-like, have a voice. I know I’m not the only woman my age online. Yet most of the blogs and sites I read seem to be written by women who are forever 20-something with high heels and small, adorable children.
That’s 148 words so I will skip right to the links and writing background.
These are my own sites – in various stages of revamping and repair:
There are more but these four are in better shape. Especially as I have just been ripping up my themes and sidebar clutter tonight.
I have written for other networks, most of which are gone now. I currently write for Squidoo and HubPages (off and on). You can find links to these accounts and my social media in the top navigation bar on my sites. Also, on Word Grrls the About page has details about sites I have written for in my earlier days online (1996 to now).
My name is Laura Brown and I Am Canadian! (I love that video on YouTube). My email is email@example.com or Twitter me @thatgrrl. My phone is not mobile – 705 797 0387 but it is very obedient.
Thanks for reading!
I really was watching Godzilla tonight too. It gave me the idea for a post which I wrote on Word Grrls.
This blog continued on… Divorce Darling.
October, 6, 2017 – Update – Decided to close Divorce Darling and move the content here. I don’t know if this will be an active site. I’m not that interested in writing the topic as it ends up being about others more than writing for myself.
Unfortunately, I can’t find anything to migrate posts and images (content) from WordPress into Blogger. There is a site which everyone passes around but it does not seem to work. Instead it opens spam links when you try to use it. If you click a second time to upload your file, it then spits out a “converted” file. But, this converted file is going nowhere when I try to import it into Blogger. So, after hours of giving it a chance to work, I am ruling it a spam trap.
In the end, you can only import your CMS into the same CMS again. Conversions seldom work between CMS’s. b2evolution I did have some success with but I just let my domain go so there isn’t a domain to host it on now. The adult site never made a cent to support keeping the domain for it.
I have turned off word verification sevearl times but no matter how many times I save the setting as ‘off’ it comes right back on again when I go back to check. I may move this blog over to WordPress.com today. I really do HATE word verification and don’t expect anyone else to use it when I don’t want to be stuck with it either.
About Operation Nice – Don’t you love it when people go out of their way to be nice? Like when someone waits to hold the door for you. Or when a stranger waves you into a line a traffic. Or even when a coworker shoots you a friendly smile along with a “have a nice day.” If everyone was a little bit nicer to the folks they encountered each day, perhaps the world would be a more pleasant place. Operation NICE was initiated to remind you that a little NICE goes a long way.
The Kind Hearted Blogger Campaign
AS A KIND-HEARTED BLOGGER I PLEDGE TO:
- create, inspire, and admire rather than compete with fellow bloggers
- be understanding of each other– in the blogging community, as well as in the world
- stay away from internet/blogging bullying
- speak my opinion freely, while still being mindful of other’s feelings– be tactful.
- make an effort–no matter how big or small the gesture, to spread kindness or joy to others
- acknowledge that I will make mistakes, (I am only human) but remember to learn from them
- know that at times I will post about the negative stuff in life, and maybe even some complaining (I am only human) but I will always follow up with something happy/positive too.
- believe that this world is a good place, filled with good people.
Just moved this blog from the original Blogger account. I’ve had it there since 2004 and even this isn’t my first blog on Blogger. I wish I had saved the others but, at the time I was trying to move along. At least I did that.
Found these two sites today while looking for a widget to use on WordPress, oddly enough.
If you are here for IComWeLeave this is my personal blog and I’m not really using it that much. WordGrrls is the blog I am using for IComWeLeave.
This blog is only coming up when I leave a comment on Blogger blogs, when there isn’t an option to sign in with a different URL. When I can I take the extra time to give the WordGrrls link in my comments.
If you are using Blogger check your settings, see if you have enabled commenters to sign in with any link they like, not just the Google login. Thanks!
I give the impression of a living person quite well. But I’m actually brain dead. I picked up something not very nice from my little nieces when babysitting and helping with the birthday for the 4 year old on the weekend. Now the back of my head is sliding down my neck, or I wish it would so I could get rid of this dragging head ache. Not that I’m whining, much.
I’m having a lot of fun and adventure with the communications here too. Last week I was offline due to a modem being fried. I changed to Rogers. Now I have everything possible hooked up in my bedroom with wires and cables all over the fricking desk and floor space and even running right in front of the TV screen. I don’t think it is right that I am paying $150 a month for this fricking mess. I hate the clutter.
Also, I do not see how the phone line was working before Rogers arrived and by the time they left only one phone jack works in the whole flipping house! Of course it is the phone jack in my bedroom. I started with two power bars which let me have space for the computer and TV and radio to be hooked up here. Extra space was there so I didn’t feel I was sitting in the middle of a fire hazard. Now, it is so plugged up wtih stuff that I had to move my radio and not have it at all. That is just not right. Bloody Rogers.
Now I have to phone and bitch, Bitch I mean – with a capital B. That is not easy for me. I’m nice. I am understanding. I don’t bitch.
So unfair. I have to be up at dawn to see if I can get into a workshop which was already booked up. If someone doesn’t show up I can attend. But I feel dreadful and don’t even want to move my dead brain and body into the shower.
On the bright side… I did get WordGrrls.com pulled together, mostly. I just want to do something else with the blog skin. Need to figure out the code to convert blog skins to the code for b2evolution. Or just customize one of the skins I’ve already found and test driven. I am liking b2e though. I think it is not hugely different from working with Blogger once you get over the different dashboard look.
Must drag my corpse into the shower now.
