Rhinestone Daisy Brooch & Earring Set

Three of my favourite things (and I have a lot of favourite things) are: brooches, rhinestones and simple daisies. This brooch and earring set is something I’d love. But, I don’t actually wear jewellery. I have some hanging around to be admired. That’s how I like it. daisy brooch setdaisybrooches2via – WEISS Daisy Brooch & Earring Set – White and Rhinestone Petals | New Leaf Galleries | Home Again.

Gorgeous Sparkling Brooch

See, I’m not that hard to please and I don’t have incredibly expensive tastes. this daisy sparkler is only $14. I would love this for Valentine’s Day. I don’t have a Valentine and I’m not especially looking for one. They are really only seasonal, Valentines I mean. Brooches never go out of style, or season!

Upcycle Jewels into Fridge Magnets

It’s a simple project and only involves a couple of steps: pop off the backs of your jeweled earrings/broaches with wire cutters, then attach a magnet with super glue.  Presto!  You’ve got yourself a blinged out fridge magnet.  Mega impact for the absolute minimum amount of effort.  Or, in other words, my kind of DIY project.

Curated from Curbly

I love finding ideas for upcycling broken brooches into something else you can use everyday, like this.

Jewellery as Christmas Ornaments

jewelled ornamentsI like to buy new holiday brooches every Christmas season. My favourite to find (and collect) are the Christmas trees. Next are poinsettias and from there I like an assortment of Christmas things. I do prefer natural themes like birds, pine cones and snow people to the religious themed brooches. That’s just me as an Earth Witch though. Everyone has some part of Christmas which is special for them.

One thing about having a collection is finding a new and creative way to display it and store it (especially if you move often). I have found a few wonderful ways to display, use and show off my holiday brooches – and all my old sparkly brooches if I want to include them.

Decorate with Brooches this Year

You can make a holiday brooch bouquet. I first noticed this as a new twist on the wedding bouquet. Several brooches are gathered up, given a stem and then tied together with ribbon. There are a few other steps, but that is the basic idea. This can work with holiday brooches and be used to decorate inside your home over the Christmas season.

Add extras and optional ideas like a big bow, some holiday ornaments or pin a few Christmas cards to the wreath with your brooches. Or, use the form of a Christmas tree, cover it with something strong enough to hold your brooches and create a Christmas tree decorated with all your holiday jewels. BHG has a jewelled wreath to give you an example.

A third idea which I have seen is to pin your brooches into the shape of a Christmas tree (use a luxurious fabric like velvet or something sparkly like left over wrapping paper) then place an elegant photo frame around your brooch creation. I found lovely inspiration for this idea at the Moon Diamond Etsy shop.

Not Just for Brides

I posted about these brooches made into bouquets for weddings on my other blog. I found them being called brooch bouquets, this one was called a blooming brooch.  But, really why should they just be for weddings? They are gorgeous and would be a nice project, something to do with a brooch collection if you have several you don’t wear very often.  It’s not something you would wear, the shape is too bulky, but it would be a lovely way to display all your brooches and add a lot of sparkle to the room. What a great centrepiece on the table. Rather than having your brooches tucked away in a jewelry box they could be a showpiece for you every day.

Brooches Best of All

I like brooches best of all the types of jewelry. My Mother once said the best things were pretty brooches, pretty socks and fancy hair clips because a woman of any size or shape can wear them and without thinking about body image. I agree. You may not want shiny things too close around your face when you’re having an off day. But, attach a lovely brooch, put on some cute socks and flip your hair out of your face with a hair band and you’re all set for the day.
