Found this advent calendar and I like it so much I went to the site to see what the cost would be, with shipping. Amazon has it for over $200 but at the site it is about $60 in Canadian money. So, I thought I was being smart to order from there. But… they don’t ship here. A note pops up telling me to try another shipping address. Well, that isn’t going to work out so well for me. Why not just say they can’t ship it. Most people don’t have addresses other than the one they are ordering from.
Anyway, that was disappointing. So, I’m just posting the link and the scanned image from the site.
Too late for Christmas this year but such a great idea. They make the sugar cookies as usual. Let them cool, then turn them over and use a line of icing on the back to stick the candycane onto it. Of course, make sure you position the candycane to be hooked onto things. The site says to let it set about 45 minutes.

A nice idea to have beads as the lights on the tree. I picked a poinsettia for my Christmas brooch this year but looked at lots of them first. (This was one of them).

Corporations have the resources to hire graphic designers so it’s really great when they do – and come up with something nice for the holidays. I noticed this one today from an ISP out in BC.

One year I had a Christmas card with a snowy lighthouse and all the usual trimmings. I think I kept one after I mailed them out.
I ordered this poinsettia brooch. I often find things I’d like to order but settle for an image saved to my blog. But, I love a poinsettia or Christmas tree brooch to wear each year around the holidays. So I bought it. There are rhinestones in the middle and the shade of red looks really good, at least online.

I like the poinsettia and Christmas rose (helleborus niger). I have a Christmas teacup and saucer with the Christmas rose, no poinsettia on mine though.
If you give them some neglect and yet don’t completely forget them, poinsettias can last for years. They probably won’t flower again. To get them to flower you have to be really strict at the 12 hours of darkness and then 12 hours of light. Not so easy to pull off in the Canadian winter when it is fully dark around 5:00PM. But, I have kept a poinsettia plant alive for years. Then I moved and all my plants died from some kind of fungus (even the cactus got it).
Poinsettias are one of my favourite Christmas things. Most years I find a new poinsettia brooch. This year I didn’t find one in time for the holidays. I really like this one, but I don’t want to spend more on the credit cards. So, I will settle for having it’s picture up instead.
